Bracket - Requiem
Why do talented bands quite often suffer the same fate. Bracket is one of the best pop/punk bands to ever surface and yet they have never received the respect they deserve. Requiem is the first Bracket album in six years, many feared the band would never make another album. Requiem is also a brilliant showcase of wonderful pop/punk. Dare I compare a punk album to Pet Sounds? Indeed, the harmonies on this album are almost as delightful. Listen to the vocals on "Warren's Song PT. 12" for a clear example of the delicious sound they manage to produce. There are 50 minutes of great pop harmonies here that need to be heard. Seriously, listening to this Bracket album is like the first time I heard Face To Face or even NOFX. Some of the tracks are quite aggressive though like the much distorted "Warren's Song PT. 25". It is unfortunate that they couldn't have created some clever names for the songs rather than "Warren's Song PT __" but that aside I think Bracket has given me one of my favorite punk albums of the year. These boys are talented and deserve your dollar. I am surprised, however, that they aren't on Fat Wreck anymore. Oh well, this will be one of the year's best albums that you've never heard. Let's hope it's not another 6 years before we see the follow-up to Requiem.
