I never bought Machina but I might seriously have to make an investment in this one. I agree with DarkGlasses in that "Stand Inside Your Love" is one of the best pumpkins' songs I've ever heard--possibly my favorite love song. "Everlasting Gaze" is another standout; I'll definitely come back and rate this one once I get my hands on it.

I'm a huge pumpkins fan, and this has been my favourite album by them ever since I first heard it. Part of the inspiration of this album is the pumpkins making a caricature themselves, at least according to Billy Corgan. This is the reason for lines such as "If I were dead would my records sell" (Heavy Metal Machine). There is far deeper symbolism and recurring themes, but diagrams were necessary to explain it on the official website. But as for the music itself, it is as usual a major departure from their usual music. There is a sense of vastness and landscape from the off in The Everlasting Gaze. It also features, in my opinion, one of the pumpkins' best love songs in the form of Stand Inside Your Love. It also has seriously good album art. Like seriously good, Sigur Ros good.
My chosen tracks are: Everlasting Gaze, Stand Inside Your Love, Age Of Innocence, Heavy Metal Machine.

What the hell is this album about? It’s a concept album if there ever was one, but Corgan didn’t stick around long enough to explain what the heck he was aiming for. Perhaps its better that way (perhaps). The album art included with this release is gorgeous and thought-provoking, as is the music. Again, not as cataclysmic as their previous chart-toppers, MACHINA/The Machines of God saw the departure of bassist D’Arcy Wretzky and the introduction of her replacement, former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur. With this album Corgan also decided to end the Pumpkins. A good, mysterious album to end with, MACHINA will always sound a bit crazy and it will be interesting to see how they patch up the gap between this 2000 release and the coming 2007 one. Track Picks: “The Everlasting Gaze,” “Heavy Metal Machine,” “Raindrops + Sunshowers,” “I Of The Mourning.”
