If you were a Hot Water Music fan, such as I, you were probably heartbroken when they called it quits. Their albums just got better and better over time. I guess there does come a time when good things have to end. Well, today is a day to rejoice because George Rebelo, Chris Wollard, and Jason Black have been reincarnated as a new band called The Draft. They have a new guitarist in tow. His name is Todd Rockhill and his chops are proven on In A Million Pieces. It seems the boys have had enough of the punk/post-hardcore sound of HWM. Instead they are into the more sing-along style of a more rock oriented outfit. The Draft have probably more melody going on than HWM ever had. This may turn off some HWM fans but for those open to change they should like melody and diversity displayed on tracks like "The Tide Is Out" or "New Eyes Open". I'm reminded a little bit of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones on "Out of Tune" but more vocals than the actual music. It took me a couple listens but I have now found as much love for The Draft as I had for Hot Water Music. Remember, Chris Wollard has moved on from Hot Water Music and has created a new sound for a new band. I think the name change was well timed.
