There were a number of Stars fans who were excited about the prospect of a Amy Millan solo album. If you aren't aware, she shares the front spot with one of Arts & Crafts (Broken Social Scene) best bands. The interesting thing with Honey From The Tombs is that most of these rootsy songs were written before Stars even took place. She's been sitting on these gems for years and has only now had the opportunity to refine them with some members of a folk band called Crazy Strings. So the roots side of things might not be what Stars fans were looking for. These people were probably after more of the rocking "Headsfull" that sounds more like Liz Phair. But there isn't a lot of these more powerful songs. Instead Millan is happy to wear her heart on her sleeve with the gentler side of songs like "Losin' You" and the waltz "Hard Hearted". I love the bluegrass track "Blue In Yr Eye". The thing that people love about Amy's participation in Stars is her lovely voice and we get loads of that on Honey From The Tombs. I really like the switch off between Amy and Torquil but I do respect what Amy's pulled off here. This is a nice set of songs that roots fans and Amy's Stars fans should enjoy.
