Sleepaway - Sleepaway
Sleepaway is pop rock band by way of Buffalo, NY. Their self-titled debut album is brimming with candy coated pop rock that goes down quite easily. It sort of reminds me of mid-90s radio rock, with a little more polish and a little more "emo" in it. No, Sleepaway isn't emo. This is pop music with a rock edge. These guys may attract more teenage girls than anything but if you have an open mind you might find some nice melodic rock music here. Listen to "If I Try" or the opener "Nice Shoes, Hollywood" for starters. If these two songs grate on you then Sleepaway is not for you, no chance. If you got these down without choking then you should enjoy the rest of the album. I really enjoyed "Something Of A Saturday", one of those songs that would go nicely on a road trip album. Overall, the music tends to tire after a while but remember folks, this is Sleepaway's debut album. And for that, I applaud them. Sleepaway, do it your own way, even if people call it cheesy, mellow, too soft, who cares. This is a little different. Thanks, I'll be looking forward to your sophomore album.
