Cave In’s Singer/Guitarist, Stephen Brodsky takes a break from the noise and the high decibel growling of his band on this third solo release, which finds him working within a different band format, one that is more subtle, generous, and pretty damn near beautiful.
Not that there is a preciousness here. This is swirling psych drone, with some power behind it. “Bluebell” and “Red Headed Butterflies” are hypnotic but groove-y, and each song rocks hard like the best power pop, but with and edge. Kind of like what you always expected The Move to sound like based on what you read, but before you actually heard them and got let down.
Brodsky does not disappoint here; with guitars right up front, most of the tracks here hit a sweet wall of sound that never lets go. This is a great driving record, and one you’ll come back to at home over and over.
