To this day, I am still suprised I gave this band a second chance. Before this album, I thought they were stupid, silly, cliche` and laughable. I hated them, and wondered why they were so goddamn popular. All their songs were the same. "AAAH...PUNX PUNX PUNX. BEER BEER BEER. KILL COPS. DRINK MORE BEER. CHAOSSSS!" I like my music with a bit o' substance, thank you. Now, yes, I do like some no substance punk bands (The Angry Samoans, Dwarves, Vandals) but those bands are comedic punk bands that are trying to make you laugh. The Casualties, however, were not and made you laugh your ass off anyway. Well, one day, when I was strolling through my local CD store out of complete and utter boredom, I stumbled upon this CD in the new releases section, sighed, and said aloud "Oh Lord, will these guys just give it up?" Out of plain (morbid ;D) curiosity, I picked up the album just to hear what they had to say this time around. Well, let's just say I was suprised as Hell. The lyrics, they were more developed. They had MEANING. All the songs didn't sound the same. Jorge's voice was less annoying and less high pitched, and the guitar was a lot meatier and heavier than on the old shit. Shocked at myself, I took the CD to the register, bought it, and took it home. I gave it a couple of spins and decided, "Hey. These guys ain't that bad, are they?" Now, most of the songs had the same subject matter (living on the streets, the poor being treated badly etc. etc>.) but they were actually written...er...well. Some of them, anyway. 'Unknown Soldier' is a bit sloppy at first, but it gets better after the fisrt minute. Also, I really don't like 'Media Control'. But, other than those two songs, I actually didn't have much problems with this album. So, if you're like me and you hate all their old shit and think it's a bunch of air-headed ignorant crap, pick up this album because this band shows that they ACTUALLY DO HAVE TALENT. They just haven't chosen to use that talent until now. Oh, and get 'Under Attack' aswell while you're at it. Cheers!
