Marky Ramone has had a bit of a wild ride the past couple of years. Marky’s former bandmate and friend Joey Ramone passed away, The Ramones later received the lifetime achievement award from MTV as well as being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Then to top it off, one of the other remaining Ramones, Dee Dee passed away three weeks after the Hall of Fame ceremony. 2002 caught Marky playing with the Misfits. Some friends of Marky’s, The Speedkings asked him if he wanted to record and tour with them. He jumped at the chance to be surrounded by friends and Legends Bleed is the result of this hook-up. The Speedkings play a furious style of punk rock, sometimes resembling more Motorhead than anything else. They blast through 16 tracks and as a bonus there is 4 live Ramones tracks to keep their spirit alive. It’s unfortunate to put the Marky Ramone seal of approval on this great disc. He has little to do with the album except play a furious drum kit. The songs are great but don’t get it thinking you are getting something similar to the Ramones. Take this one or leave it. If you are Speedkings fan, you will be more than happy with this power-punk album.
