Pistol Disco is a duo from Sweden that builds off of Suicide’s brand of dark, slow electronica, with occasional surges of abrasive sheets of noise. The seven tracks here have a mystical, lo-fi vibe, like tentative movement toward the exposure of some unnamed horror. “Aamen” “Salaam” and “Animal” in particular showcase the band’s layers of sound. The plodding groove fluctuates between outright noise, krautrock fuzz and other anxiety-producing sounds that this is the grail for all those looking to Trent Reznor for insight into pain. This impressive and depressing, but never less than riveting. Awesome in the good senses of the word; get it! Celebrity Lifestyle seems to be a small but aggressive label worth supporting. I’m not sure I’d want to see them live, but only because of who/what might show up with me to see them.
