I had heard some great things about this Roadrunner band, Trivium. So I contacted the label to see if I could do a review. Wow, I wasn't quite ready for what my ears were going to be subject to. Trivium mix old school metal that I grew up with, like Helloween and Testament and even old school Metallica, in with new bands like Sevendust to come up with some of the chunkiest but most listenable metal I've heard in a while. According to what I've read, The Crusade is quite a switch from what the thrash sound of their debut, Ascendancy, had. This album takes Trivium into a new direction with those classic metal bands influencing this American metal band. The musicianship is impeccable with vocals from Matt Heafy demanding you to learn the lyrics to sing along. The two guitarists, Matt and Corey Beaulieu have an awesome dual guitar thing, reminding me slightly of Judas Priest. Listen to "Contempt Breeds Contamination" for a slightly darker side of things but it is still very accessible. Heafy has a great classic metal voice and although they may have got a bad rap, this album is well done.
I honestly can't tell you how much I enjoyed The Crusade. I hope Trivium make it up to Calgary for me to witness live.
