I've always been a fan of Putumayo and their wonderful world music compilations. Now it's time for this year's Christmas album from them and this year it come from New Orleans. What better place to turn to for a celebration this year than New Orleans. They are well on the road to recovery and people in the city are so thankful for all the generosity the world has shown them.
Anyway, this Christmas disc has some of the wonderful jazz and soul sounds that are native to Louisiana. Some big band styles like the Heritage Hall Jazz Band with Gregg Stafford doing a wonderful rendition of "Silver Bells". I loved the sexy "'Zat You Santa Claus?" by Ingrid Lucia. What would a New Orleans compilation be without one of the Marsalis'? Ellis makes his mark with a great "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". The upbeat compilation makes an end with a custom track called "Holiday Time In New Orleans" done by the Dukes of Dixieland. This is a fun Christmas compilation that has a classic feel to it. It will be one that will be popular for years to come.
