Riff Randells are one of those groups that you don’t like for the complexity of their music. In fact, so many bands have done this music that it can’t even be a challenge. But, before I go off I have to say that the Riff Randells is actually an enjoyable listen. It should be that three-chord punk rock should be almost laid to rest with the death of Joey Ramone, the master. There is a side of me that has always wanted to be in a band like this though so I have a soft spot for it. The Donnas have the female punk market almost cornered but there is room for bands like the Riff Randells to target local cities. They are from Vancouver and have had a bit of a line-up changes since their inception. You may remember seeing something from them out on Mint Records. Since then they have dropped three members and picked up a male bass player, Justin. With this release on Calgary based Delmonico records they are bound to get some more press and exposure. This is a very impressive EP and I can see fans of the Donnas eating this up. The six songs are over with in 13 minutes but it’s a fast and wild ride with some sugary punk vocals to get you through. Long live three-chord punk!
