Expectations were quite high for Team Sleep, a group featuring Deftones' throat Chino Moreno, a group who's debut album was nearly a decade in the making. I hadn't gotten around to listening to it until now, a whole two years after it's release. Sadly, after a few listens, I am quite disappointed by the disjointed, 'let's throw whatever we want on here' feel the album consists of. A few winners, a whole lot of songs that feel rushed, uninspired and mostly excuses to fill up an album's worth of material. "Princeton Review" is quite nice, breezy with an air of post-rock and warmly cocooned by a nice beat. "Our Ride To The Rectory" has some nice building atmosphere to work off of, and the vocal trade-offs between Chino and Mary Timony (Helium) on "King Diamond" sound pretty damn cool. It's just a shame the finer moments never last, too often crushed by dead-weight that eventually bogs the album down too far to recommend to anyone.
