Ah The Offspring, what would we do without you? Although a lot can be said about the Offspring, not too much can be said about this album. "It has a lot of great hits, but the strength of these songs is lacking somewhat after such releases as Ixnay on the Hombre Americana, and Conspiracy of One" says some jagoff that obviously thinks the more songs an album has on the radio, the better it makes the album. Even though there was lack of a third U.S. single, this album has some really great tracks. I honestly think this album has gotten way too much harsh criticism just because of the fact that this album doesn't rely on the strength of 3 radio singles. Each song on Splinter is a hidden gem that has its strong points. Never Gonna Find Me has a great screeching guitar mixed in with some fast punchy drums. The Worst Hangover Ever is a great song about drinking wayyyyyyyy too much. Lightning Rod is a fantastic song that Dexter sings incredibly, keeping in complete harmony with Noodles while the drums follow suit an octave lower. and just for fun, they throw in Da Hui, which is just a 1:30 song about not fucking with Da Hui. The Noose is also a good punchy pop/punk song that has some speedy internvals, but then the song will come to a screeching halt and go about half time while Dexter screams "No More." This album is a retrospective album displaying some great punk elements, but keeping in touch with todays more rocky music.

I had already heard 'The Offspring' but never actually knew it was them. As i grew, i heard them again and again throughout middle school and a couple of other times in High School. Early in my freshman or sophomore year, i picked up this album. I couldn't put it down for the longest time. Even my mom loved it and requested me to play the album whenever we had to go on a trip somewhere. I dont know if this album is as great as the others, but from jumping into the offspring this late, and hearing this ONE album, they couldn't have been bad. I think anyone would be able to just jump into the series of albums these guys have, and be pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this band to anyone into punk, and even if you arent, check them out.
