Every once and a while you run into that underground gem that has been around for ages but for some reason you just haven’t landed upon. Rye Coalition is that band for me. I first checked out their Lipstick Game about a year after it came out and I have been eagerly awaiting On Top. Sometimes when you are anticipating something so good, it let’s you down. Not so with Rye Coalition. I don’t think that they could possibly write a bad song. On Top also has Steve Albini behind the boards (seems like he’s producing everything good right now). The boys run through a gamut of 10 songs in just under an hour and there really isn’t any downtime throughout the entire album. It’s as hard hitting as Lipstick Game if not harder. Don’t wait any longer to get into one of the best post-rock bands since Fugazi. Rye Coalition knocks you around like you’re a rag doll. That’s a good thing.
