Many forget about the power and influence Gorilla Biscuits had on the hardcore scene back in the 80s. Where a lot of hardcore was negative and depressing, Anthony Civocelli had a straight edge style of vocals. He would try and put a positive spin on a lot of the negative topics. You can hear a lot of similarities between Gorilla Biscuits and bands like Minor Threat, Government Issue, and Youth of Today. They all helped put New York on the map for hardcore. The guitars are heavy and very riff oriented, the vocals are angry but not so crazy that you couldn't make them out. Best 12 songs in 20 minutes I can think of!
Some may argue that their sophomore album, Start Today, was even more powerful and influential but I really like the rawness and poor production on their debut. Lead Singer Anthony Civocelli would go on to form CIV. Guitarist Walter Schreifels would go on to form the influential Quicksand, Rival Schools and is now in Walking Concert.
