Saves the Day have a formula and they are too afraid to leave it behind and move along. There is no doubt that the band is very talented and all the musicians are great at what they do they just need to make advancements in the songwriting department. Compare Stay What You Are with their first album, Can’t Slow Down, and you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between them. An artist can get off on that for maybe two albums, but after that they will start to lose some of their fanbase. For newcomers just checking the band out, Stay What You Are is as good a place to start as any. For longtime fans you might just save you money and throw on Through Being Cool again. Stay What You Are is a perfect example of a talented band who needs to go in search of newfound creativity. They have polished up their style now it's time to diversify. Saves The Day have it in them, now they just need to harness it and go for it.
