Dave Smalley enters the punk world again (Dag Nasty, All, Down By Law) with a new sounding band, The Sharpshooters. These guys have a different feel about them. On the tear sheet with this album it said to imagine the Jam listening to Down By Laws "All Scratched Up" writing new songs and having the Clash play them. I say that this is a pretty bang on description. Starting what they are calling 'Mod Punk' The Sharpshooters are a fresh face with a familiar face all in the same. You won't hardly recognize Smalley's vocals in this sort of setting. I hear a big Elvis Costello influence as well. Smalley seems to be bored with his straight ahead punk and has gone back to his records collection in order to find new direction. It's refreshing but I do have a complaint about the production though. It's a really muddy mix. Credits for the recording and mixing are given to Mike Fanuele.
