Clinic - Visitations
This album had me perplexed. I've been a Clinic fan since day one but after Winchester Cathedral they kind of lost me. Well, didn't really lose me, a better word might be "bored" me. I find when a band uses the same formula for more than 2 albums I really get bored, doesn't matter how much I like that sound. Visitations takes Clinic into familiar territory but unlike Winchester Cathedral they manage to at least pretend they are trying something new. It's not all that obvious and that is where my perplexed nature came into effect. Instead of dropping the absolute signature sound, Clinic opts to sort of reinvent. If you need immediate proof then check out the weird "Animal/Human". There is some interesting things going on with this one including some funky wah-wah pedal and some eastern influence (which I think Clinic uses to create most of their sound). If you were like me and were bored with Clinic I would suggest that you give Visitations a flirt. That is if you feel the need to replace Walking With Thee in your collection.
I still maintain that Walking With Thee is my favorite Clinic album but over time (if I give it any more time) Visitations could become a close second.
