CAN'T DO IT NOT EVEN IF SOBER! CAN'T GET THAT ENGINE TURNED OVER! Those lines are imprinted on my mind since the first time I heard Modest Mouse. Everytime I hear either the words "cowboy" or "Dan" I immediately get this song stuck in my head. And my brothers name is Dan so thats a lot of times!

Great album. It's got so much variety and the songwriting is fantastic. My favorite is still "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" but it's got many good tracks. My only problem is that some songs run a bit on the long side. I know it's a sort of a "staple" that Modest Mouse songs are usually long, but, uh... man, "Trucker's Atlas"! But I think anyone with an interest in the band will love this.
EDIT: After many listens to this fine album, I must say that it's not only my favorite Modest Mouse album, but one of my top albums. The only problem with it is the second half of Truckers Atlas but everything else it's great. Along with "Teeth...", "Cowboy Dan" and "Styrofoam Boots (It's All Nice On Ice Alright)" are my favorites on the record. If I could, I'd change my original rating of 8 to a 9.5.

Honestly, this was the first of Modest Mouse albums I would get into. It still stands as one of their best "independent" moments. I'm not sure who at Sony saw the potential in Isaac Brock and crew when they signed them but they must be feeling pretty good right about now, with the anticipation of their new album. If you don't hear the whole album, make sure and hear "Convenient Parking". Still one of their finest songs.
