Eloe Omoe - Marauders
This Boston noise duo (Sam Rowell and Tim Leanse, bass & drums respectively) may only be a few miles away from the home of Lightning Bolt, yet their agenda and mood are quite different from the Providence legends.
First of all, Eloe Omoe seem to be reaching for the mystic in their sludgy improvs and frantic song structures. Free jazz runs neck and neck for inspiration with free noise; “Unimog Lust” and “By The Teeth of Our Skin”’s over-amped and glorious grooves more than reach the sublime on occasion. This is a record that rocks, wallows in noise and grime, but is cathartic and smart in a way that clues you in to a band that has IDEAS as well as balls. I dare you to listen to “Meanstreak” and not feel you are in the custody of a couple of guys who are planning something lasting.
