Bernard is a band that seemed strange to me. The ever present but very talented pianist, the soft crooning of Jonathan Grant Berlin and the booming rhythm section make this band talented but they have such a familiarity with, dare I say it, Coldplay. But don’t let what I say effect your opinion too much. The songs are beautifully written and it is extremely easy to lose yourself in the cadence. While most of the tracks are based on love, a few deal with the heavy burden of religion and even with life itself. But the sweet sound of the melancholy pianos and heartfelt lyrics make this album a bit sickening. Jonathan’s vocals were somewhat a chore to sit through to write this review, even though there are only eight songs on the album. It is easy to see that the band is out to prove something, though I'm not quite sure what. The songs are enough to mend a broken heart and invoke a flood of tears.... If you are open to that sort of thing.
