Most will know the name Jeremy Enigk but those who don't would probably go back and familiarize yourself with Sunny Day Real Estate. I would recommend Diary as a starting point. Once you have caught up to us then I'll proceed...
World Waits is the second solo album for the former front man of both Sunny Day Real Estate as well as The Fire Theft. He sounds like he's very comfortable on his own here. He gets a lot of help from various friends and musicians but he is the sole songwriter on the album.
Jeremy sounds happy when his vocals are in the atmosphere like on the gorgeous album closer "Burn". Call it falsetto but he has it and it is glorious. He also is good at the darker tracks like "Damien's Dream". Really, there isn't a bad track on World Waits. Enigk has done a great job in song selection as well as the track listing.
I do have to mention that the packaging is very appropriate. It is very classy looking for a classy album.
I found that the more I listened to World Waits, the more charm and wonder I found in it. It is far from a masculine release. Enigk has become a masterful songwriter in his own rite. It's times like this you just want to go up and hug him because he has left his Sunny Day Real Estate songwriting behind in favor of this more heartfelt style.
