Optimistic, un-ironic psychedelic folk rock is back, and what’s wrong with that? Is love and understanding unpatriotic too now? Giant Skyflower are a little bit freak, a little bit sweet, like Syd sitting in with Fairport Convention for a few tunes…with dope at the ready.
“Rainbows and Dreams (With Worms Singing)” is probably the most representative of the ten tracks, with its dark yet happy musings on what can be seen of the worlds within and without.
Others, like “Meditations on Christ and the Magi” or “Feast of Blood” are also effective blends of the gentle and slightly mad. Listen to this while watching the original version of The Wicker Man with the sound off; you’ll be reassured, horny and ready for dancing in no time.
