Now that he is back with a bout of dangerous hepatitis C Alejandro Escovedo seems like he is back stronger than ever. The Boxing Mirror is arguably the fantastic singer/songwriter's best album to date. His voice is big, his songwriting is solid, his songs are catchy and diverse... what more could one ask for?

Alejandro starts off The Boxing Mirror on a sombre note with "Arizona". It's a lovely song but very depressing. He picks up the tempo slightly with the more adventuresome "Dear Head On The Wall". I really loved the rocking "Break This Time". It was road trip ready with it's sing-along chorus "I just might break this time", along with some fun guitar solos. "Evita's Lullaby" is yet another of my faves on Boxing Mirror. It is a gentle ballad but with Escovedo's fine and very understandable lyrics it proves to be a story that you can't leave. Keeping on the ballads, you have to hear "Died A Little Today" to jerk a tear from your eye. If you like the rocking side of things, try on "Sacramento & Polk", the hardest we have seem Alejandro rock. This track is screaming to be on mixed tapes.

So, as you can gather from this brief review, I found Boxing Mirror to be a fantastic addition to Alejandro's already impressive catalog.
