I can't believe I'm reviewing an album that you buy at Starbucks. Oh well, the folks at Hear Music felt Music Emissions was a great place to promote Low Stars. They actually sold me on it when I was told that David Gibbs (Gigolo Aunts) was one of the four members. The other three are Jeff Russo (Tonic), Jude, and Chris Seefried (Gods Child). So as you can see, all of these musicians have been around a while. They decided to band together to make some great easy listening harmonies and that's pretty much what you get with Low Stars debut album. And really, if you are into bands like The Jayhawks, Crosby Stills and Nash or even the Eagles, for that matter, then you might think Low Stars are your cup of java.
"Child" sticks out as one of my favorites, even though it really sounds like Cat Stevens' "Father and Son". It is a lovely song about coming of age. If you don't enjoy contemporary music then Low Stars will not appeal to you one bit. If you can stand Cat Stevens and the Eagles then you might find solace here. The musicianship is good and the songwriting isn't bad at all.
