If you were like me when you first heard about Peter Bjorn and John you would have thought that this was two people. In fact there are three amazing songwriters here, all going by their first names. Yes, it's not "Peter Bjorn". It should read Peter, Bjorn and John, but regardless, let's dive into this absolute pop masterpiece they have given us called Writer's Block. The three of these musicians reside in Stockholm, Sweden and have previously given us two other albums. But with BMG distributing Almost Gold, Writer's Block is the first album to get proper coverage.

The pop element that lives on this album cannot be dismissed. There are so many hooks that even the uninitiated will be turned on to Peter Bjorn and John.

There is a very spooky essence to "Young Folks" even though it is a happy song. The vocals are bouncy and upbeat, as is the instrumentation but the production seems just a little spooky to me. But in the end, if you don't have that whistle piece stuck in your head after just one listen then Writer's Block has been non-effective. "Amsterdam" is a little repetitive but before it becomes annoying they ease off and jump into "Start To Melt". The track, "Up Against The Wall" just puts a smile on my face. The song has a little bit of negativity in it but the vocals really make everything OK. If Silversun Pickups didn't have quite the wall of sound behind them they might sound like this song. These guys can make something that should be so boring and repetitive ("Roll The Credits"), into a magical piece that is very compelling.

Writer's Block is such a good pop album that everyone needs to hear it. The disc that was sent to me came with a bonus disc with 6 extra tracks on it. Definitely a bonus when the songs are this good.
