Busdriver is one of those artists that you'll either immediately be drawn to or downright hate. His hip-hop style is something that stands out as something very different. That is the reason that you need to at least give RoadkillOvercoat, his first album for the hot Anti- label, a listen. Just to make you understand how different Busdriver is, he chooses to have Bianca Casady from CocoRosie featured on "Go Slow". The only reason this is strange is because you'd never see someone like this on a conventional hip hop album, NEVER! Bjork, maybe but never someone as eclectic as Bianca. It seems that Busdriver might actually be reaching out to attract some new listeners with the very poppy "Sun Shower". It's actually quite far from a rap song, bordering on the likes of TV On The Radio here. But really, it's the ferocious rhymes like he displays on "Pompous Posies! Your Party's No Fun" that fans keep coming back for. Beats are done by Boom Bip and Nobody, they add to the album immensely. RoadkillOvercoat edges out Fear of a Black Tangent for me. Slightly.
So do yourself a favor, put down that new Nelly album and try out something different, very different. If you don't like, go back to that rap music you are being force-fed.

lol... do ppl still listen to Nelly? I know they dont round here, but I thought he had been phased out altogether. lol...I think Im headed to their myspace. I did, no dice chino...player is jammed. perhaps another time. Epitaph just seems to be getting deeper and deeper into hip hop. Rating is for the anticipation. I may be back to comment further.
