Sly Stone once said that you can’t nickname the truth, and I won’t water this record down either. Based on Saharawi music, which is traditional sung poetry from the native language in Western Sahara, this set is blending of that with some odd pop tones, and outrageous guitar freakouts. The mastermind behind this band is Doueh (aka Baamar Salmou) himself, who until Sublime frequencies came along, had refused for over twenty years to officially release his homemade jams. So this set is at once a celebration of a lifetime of work, a rare glimpse into a isolated land and what they have done with the music that has filtered into it, and an in-your face funk riot.
This is a limited vinyl release of about 1000 copies, so act fast. If you don’t have an LP player, buy one just to listen to this. A crazed, spacey jam that is truly outsider music, a release from maybe the best label there is, and a new guitar hero for you bedroom mirror self-stalkers. Wow.
