One-half of the double-album released about a year apart, Hypnotize is the lesser of the two, and a pretty flat affair from start to finish. Their popularity is well-founded, no doubt, as they've really developed a knack for the almighty hook. If it isn't Daron's rocket-fueled riffing, it's Serj's flair for the dramatic and melodic vocal passages, moments we've all heard before but some just can't seem to get enough. I think it's sad the band has come this far only to obviously force an appeal towards the least common denominator amongst music fans; the head-nodding cool kids who want to listen to everything everyone else is listening to. Luckily for System, they get to send out all their deep and fascinating political and social opinions to this wide-ranging fanbase. A bunch of people who could care less what's being said, as long as it sounds safe and familiar. And that's not just the fans I'm talking about...
