In the fall of 2004, the four piece alternative rock group hailing from Long Island, Bayside returned to the studio to record their new album to be released under Victory Records. The aspect of this band I like the most is their lyrics, filled with honesty. Their 2005 self-titled release is definitely an album you can get into immediately. The first track to really get your attention would be Devotion & Desire. This song along with others like Half A Life have some great melodies with greater lyrics to go along. One of my favorites is without a doubt They Looked Like Strong Hands, a good song to just belt out with some friends. Along with the some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard, in that song they say something towards the effect of; it’s not important what others think of you, because when you seek approval from strangers you’d think it would make you feel strong but it doesn’t. You’re not as strong as you think you are.

Moving on, another hit on the album is Don’t Call Me Peanut, the expected acoustic track. The combination of excellent lyrics, even better acoustic parts and the sounds of a piano make it the best song they have ever produced. The way leadman Anthony Raneri manipulates his voice gives me chills sometimes. One more track worth mentioning would be Blame It On Bad Luck, which I personally love because I think it is a song that anyone under the sun can relate to. In their upcoming albums, I believe it will be quite the challenge to overcome this damn near flawless album.

Listening to this whole album made me kind of sad. The themes of depression, betrayal, and heartbreak come so true to many people. Anyone could relate with what this album talks about. listen to this album over and over and you realize how close you may be able to relate to this in real life. The lyrics are real and true to everyone listening, and the music goes along perfectly. All together, this is a solid album worth listening by anyone who browses through the record store. It might make you think about life a little, and maybe teach you how to not take life for granted. Good job, Bayside.

Good review Kev...I won't explain the irony in having these two sentences in this review. it’s not important what others think of you, because when you seek approval from strangers you’d think it would make you feel strong but it doesn’t. You’re not as strong as you think you are. -------and a song title named ------Don’t Call Me Peanut. Let's just say this stabbed me at a dark moment in my life. I'm headed to get some medical attention for now...but I'll be back to check out just how ironic this really is.
