I appreciate it when bands choose a name for themselves that gives insight into their identity. All sixteen tracks on "The Wide Wide World And All We Know," feel good. Esther Sprikkelman’s breathy voice caress’s it’s listeners while Harry Otten’s delicate guitar playing softly snows over electronic arrangements. “Me And The Bees” is a paralyzing song reveling a feeling of loneliness without blame. “Now it’s just me and the bees, in a cyclone of falling leaves…to bad it’s true, I’m still in love with you,” Esther sings calmly as the keyboards hum. In “Stay Awake,” the lyrics deeply explore feelings of disappointment, inadequacy and the acceptance of inevitable danger. “Everyone gets double guessed and it’s just what we deserve… all we got to do before the ambulance comes is stay awake.” This entire album feels resigned and depressed, but alternately feels comfortable and warm. Safe Home’s maturity and confidence project brightly in “The Wide Wide World And All We Know,” and when played anywhere, presents an illusion of protection.
