Luke Brian's project Night Kills The Day have been getting a lot of comparisons to the Cure. I can't hear it. Instead they sound like they are hopping on the Joy Division reprise that Interpol and She Wants Revenge are doing. Do we need another band in that vein? The Study Of Man is a really strong album so I would argue yes, we do. I could settle for a more upbeat Depeche Mode rather than the Cure comparison.

Luke Brian has a great voice, one of those melodramatic ones with lots of charisma. He has surrounded himself with some quality musicians as well. And Joe Blaney does a fine production job as well.

The Study Of Man opens carefully and softly with "After Hours", easing you into the Night Kills The Day sound. Luke's vocals are highlighted at the top of the mix. "Rainbows In NYC" is a little more upbeat and could be compared to The Editors or Interpol. It's a super catchy track though. The engine is warm as the boys take a "Dive!", the most rocking track of the set. Check out "Final Mask", easily my favorite track of the 11 presented here. "Meaning" also brings me to compare them to Interpol.

Overall, Night Kills the Day have brought quite a diverse and enjoyable album to the table for their debut. How they follow this up will determine the future of this band. They have what it takes now they just need to sell the goods.
