Frog Eyes. Some love them and some hate them. I'm one of the rare breed that can go either way. Tears Of The Valedictorian is the first album outside of their unnamed trilogy: The Golden River, The Folded Palm and The Bloody Hand. I think it is their finest as well.

Frog Eyes is a band that borders on disaster. I think this is what sparks the heated debate about them. Carey Mercer's vocals are abrasive and gaspy like he is desperate to get them out, almost as if he was possessed at times. They like to create loud messes only to recover nicely (the 9 minute "Caravan Breakers, They Prey on the Weak and the Old" showcases this well).  The thing that sets these songs apart is that there is plenty of melody mixed with the cacophony of sound. Everything is manic but underneath it all is a cool and composed band.

Frog Eyes is psychedelic music and they are one of the best bands doing it right now. They should be held as high as Animal Collective after Tears of the Valedictorian. Today you can call me a Frog Eyes fan.
