Can Earth make a bad record? What would it sound like? At their best, they create a murky landscape that evokes both fear and a desire for drug-altered escape from fear; wouldn’t a bad drone make you indulge in both more feverishly?
This is a CD/DVD set that features remixes of 3 Earth tunes plus a new one, the suitably heavy "A Plague of Angels." The remixes of "Ouroboros is Broken," and "Coda Maestoso in F (Flat) Minor" and "Miami morning Coming Down" are less muddy than the originals, but do not add much in the way of power. They offer new, but not necessarily better, entrances into the tracks. The new song is a wonder, and the best of the set.
The DVD features live footage and interviews with maestro Dylan Carson on the process, the volume, the road, etc. Not an essential Earth release, which means it is more essential than about 90% of what comes out this month.
