Ryan’s well named band kicks major funk jams here, with its killer rhythm section staying tight and aggressive all the way. In fact, aside from bassist Robert Jones and drummer Andrew Wilshusen, there is only Jim Ryan himself, on tenor and alto sax and flute. This trio burns its way through funky and free jazz jams, in a hot and sweaty release that makes you want to see them live right now.
That sense of the immediate and insistent pervades all ten tracks here, with "Residuals" and "Lost Doggie" being personal invitations to move. The ridiculously pulsing "Jumpin In" is a personal reminder to me that I will never be able to dance in a way that would pay tribute to this blistering track. This is a feast for the ears, rocking and funking hard enough to make a dead man come.
