If there was ever a time to fall in love with a indie singer songwriter it would be now. Richard Swift captured the hearts of many with The Richard Swift Collection Vol. 1 and now returns with Dressed Up For The Letdown, another premium collection of interesting and inventive songs. Just listen to the diversity on the title track to get your expectations in check. Scissor Sister fans should head over to "The Songs of National Freedom". While this track isn't quite as beat happy as the aforementioned band, it is a piano heavy song that has that nod to Elton John. Don't look past this song for any more of this style. Swift almost gets into a mood shift on "Most Of What I Know". Kind of along the lines of Rufus Wainwright without the falsetto. This is my favorite track on the set. Then he throws the listener another curve ball with the ever so gentle "Buildings In America", that builds up to a louder finale. Another piano track can be found on "Artist & Repertoire". He adds a few horns in the bridge section in order to fill out the song. "Kiss For The Misses" is a finger snapping rollick that is sure to please. The last track is a gentle track labeled "The Opening Band", which slowly fades into nothing.

I can't help but compare Richard to an early Josh Rouse. Seems like they are built from the same influences. Don't miss out on this album. It will go down as one of the better ones this year.
