Do tell me, senor....

 What is there to say that hasn't already been said about Plain White T's? I can only paraphrase the copious amounts of general dislike towards this band that I share with everyone else. This EP does not improve their image in my eyes and it definitely in your eyes if you already were disgusted at this horrific attempt at music.

 Just hurry up and get to the point!

If you have ever heard Plain White T's, you know what I'm talking about when I say: pathetic attempts at lyrics, simplistic music, and bland vocals. "Easy Way Out" sounds like they were trying to be Spitalfield for a second but it's impossible to be Spitalfield with vocals like those and, again, crappy lyrics. In this song, they also had lyrics delivered in an irritatingly repetitive format. "If I Told You" introduces us to his voice being like nails to a chalkboard. Basically, don't waste your money unless you love Cute Is What You Aim For.

When this came out it was all over the airwaves, as if they had not heard anything like this before in the history of popular music. Originating in Chicago in 1997 as a pop-punk outfit, it therefore might seem odd that the Plain White Ts would have this rather sappy love song as their biggest hit. The single was quickly followed up by this six track EP, on which you get two versions of the song - the studio version and the live version.

But despite this double dose, the EP and the song cannot obscure the fact that this is a run of the mill band who did something different to what they usually do and struck lucky. Once the acoustic strains of "Hey There Delilah" are done, the EP goes quickly downhill from that point on. It is as if the rest of the stuff were a collection of demos rather than a fully formed EP. To make matters worse, the band close the EP with a really corny live version at which the crowd are exhorted to sing along.

As is so often the case with one hit wonde4rs, they flog their one hit to death until it becomes irritating. That is what has happened here. In a desperate attempt to raise future royalties from their one hit, the band (or their record company, Fearless) have repackaged it and put it out again hoping that the people who bought it the first time will do so again. Trouble is, familiarity breeds contempt.

I agree with you Sean, these guys are terrible. Although I really enjoy kareoking them in the car with my friends. This song also contains my favorite lyric. Ever. "A Thousand miles is pretty far, but they've got planes and trains and cars..." lololololololol at this band.

Owing to relentless touring and a natural feel for the live environment, Illinois born outfit Plain White T’s production of albums has been slow and steady to say the least. It is difficult to believe that a band who have been maintaining a level of thoughtful, heart-laden, straight edge consistency for just shy of ten years are just releasing their 3rd album, ‘Every Seond Counts’. To mark this occasion, as a prelude to this full-length, they open out with winding subtlety and Tom Higgenson gives his vocals a dusky, laboured stroke. This stumbles over the creaking accompaniment of ‘Hey There Delilah’. It speaks of helplessness caused by long distance love and dream chasing;

“Hey there Delilah, I know times are getting hard but believe me one day I’ll pay the bills with this guitar. We'll have good, we'll have the life we knew we would."

A bobbing acoustic accompaniment helps to promote a different side to Higgenson’s vocals and it allows him to adopt a lighter, duskier style than we have become accustomed to. This heart-tugging return adds a lighter touch to their foraging and mildly spiky back-catalogue.

We talked on the phone. I barely find this deserving of a one. They really lack talent. And knowing that in the future they would release an album with a shitty single called Hate (I Really Don't Like You)...I find it totally deserving, but I understand your viewpoint.

I'm not a fan of these guys either Sean, but you gotta stop giving discs undeserving ratings bro...I understand your passion, but this album, I listened to it briefly is worth more than a 1 out of 5.
