As a Providence boy, I have to hold on to Load as the leader of the pack, but the last few releases by Cut Hands put that label near the top of the ladder for me. Adventurous and abrasive releases like this one from Heavy winged are a perfect example of the label’s vision. To listen to Heavy Winged is to hear a vision, albeit a psych-freakout improv sort that you may be used to hearing these days. Listen again. This is one of the most mesmerizing guitar jams I’ve heard in a long time, brutal and crunchy, but also sublime and at times even mystic. This jam gets into your head and will not let go. It will haunt you for days, not only by its colors and risks, but by its power. Whether you’re into Acid Mothers or The Mothers, this is for you.
