This set is probably one of the lost treasures of Mr. Hookers extensive back catalogue. Most blues fans probably wouldn't recognize much on this album. That's not to say that it is a bad album - quite the contrary. Most of the tracks were recorded in 1953 and were released under the title Detroit Special. The songs are bare with (for the most part) just John singing with his guitar. The solos he does here are first rate as featured on the track Misbelieving Baby. Tired of watered down blues then check this set out and find out where John Lee Hooker has come from.
