Definitely surprised by what I have heard by these guys. Mayday Parade is a case where you definitely cannot judge a book by its cover. This album, A Lesson In Romantics, is an amazing follow up to their EP Tales Told By Dead Friends. Mayday Parade is a pleasant surprise upon my ears which makes me want to listen to more music within their genre. With only a year being passed since their last album, Mayday Parade have proved that they are hear ready to work. A Lesson In Romantics is a more complex album than Tales Told By Dead Friends, which is good to see. The guys are maturing and going to make great success off of this album from Fearless Records. The songs aren't too long, and they aren't too short, there is rarely any repetition throughout the album, and last, the lyrics are clever and witty. Those are elements that make an album very successful and great to listen to.

The opening track, Jamie All Over, is a great choice. It will immediately pull the listener into the music and pay close attention. When I listened to it, I really hadn't noticed that I was bobbing my head up and down to the music. The chorus is very catchy, which reminds me of a Jack's Mannequin style of writing. The chorus states:

'And please don't tell me that I'm dreaming, when all I ever wanted was to dream another sunset with you. If I roll over when it's over, I'll take this Cali sunrise with me and wake up with the fondest memories.'

Lyrics like those create this album, and as you can read, it sounds catchy. Black Cat is the next single off of this album. After listening to this song, it's easy to see why. The song is made out to be a show, or so it seems.

'close up camera one, the hero sings in this scene. The boy that gets the girl gets to go home where they get married, but stop the tape, the sunset still looks fake to me. The hero looks like he can't breathe, the damsel just left everything'

That is so far the best opening to any song I have heard this year. Easily something you could see spectators singing along with while watching Mayday Parade live in concert. Every song is spectacular on this album and is a potential hit. It will be very interesting to see what songs this band chooses to use as hit singles. The perfect hooks and lyrics just keep coming in this album. You don't know quite what to expect by looking at this album, but I would suggest this album to everyone that has downloaded the track up for download on the front page. If you like that track, you'll be glad you bought this album when the time comes around.
