This act's name may as well be two Japanese men making electronic music. But really, Fujiya and Miyagi aren't anything their name would suggest. There are actually three members of the group, David Best (guitars), Steve Lewis (synths), and Matt Hainsby (bass) and they all come from England. Apparently the Miyagi comes from the man of the same name in Karate Kid and Fujiya, who knows. I could only find reference to a sushi store.
Anyway, this trio's music borders on electronica the same way that LCD Soundsystem does. You can hear a lot of Krautrock influences in their sounds as well as tons of post-rock. Transparent Things is the groups second effort (first with Matt Hainsby in tow) and it is a really fun album. The music is upbeat without too many corners. It has that Trans Am sort of feel, a little quirky but very able. The three members really play off of each other nicely, as heard on instrumental "Conductor 71". It should be stated that most of their music features David Best singing, and even though he has a bit of a monotonous voice it works for Fujiya & Miyagi.
So if you are a post-rock fan, a dance-punk fan, a krautrock fan or even dabble in electronic music, Fujiya & Miyagi really have something to offer you all in Transparent Things. This is a great album that has some fantastic grooves going.
