The term power-pop had to be made for a band like Cheap Trick. They are indeed the epitome of the genre and an album as solid as Heaven Tonight is a prime example of why Cheap Trick fans are still alive and well. This album opens up with one of the most classic power-pop songs of all time: "Surrender" ("Mommy's Alright, Daddy' Alright, they just seem a little weird"). But if that's all the exposure you've had to this album you need to pay another listen. Because as soon as the second song hits your ears, "On Top Of The World", you know that this is one of the band's highlight albums. It was more like a highlight few years because you could probably pick any of Cheap Trick's early output (1977-79) and replace this album. This is my favorite though. The production of Heaven Tonight really stands out too. It is crisp and easy to listen to loud. Some classic guitar riffs are present on songs like "California Man" and the huge "Auf Wiedersehen". I know this review is all over the place but that's always what happens when you try to sell an album that is such a classic and so rambunctious. Just buy it!
