Now that Damon Gough (Badly Drawn Boy) has gained all the critic’s respect with The Hour of Bewilderbeast, his next task is to get into the hearts of all of the public. What better way to do that than agree to do the soundtrack for the Hugh Grant film About A Boy. That’s exactly what Damon has done and done well I might add. The album is chock full of brand new brilliant Badly Drawn Boy compositions. He has invited the amazing producer Tom Rothrock (Beck, R.L. Burnside) to man the boards and it makes the album shine like the brightest diamond in the pack. Damon has no problem relating to the emotions in the movie and in songs such as “Silent Sigh he makes that ring out loud and clear. Badly Drawn Boy still manages to have a fun time while doing the emotional stuff. You can hear his enthusiasm in all of the tracks. You don’t have to be a Badly Drawn Boy fan to appreciate this album (it helps though) and don’t think of this as a soundtrack but a complete work of art by Damon. This is a worthy follow-up to Bewilderbeast.
