Formed in 1966, the band named after a wild night of tripping in a cemetery, had, by the time
of this 1970 release, clearly fallen in love with CSN’s first record. That is not a bad thing;
the harmonies, the trebly electric guitars and the calls to love and peace delivered without
irony, are as fresh today as when they were recorded. This is sure to be a hit both with freak-
folkers and aging hippies whose favorite tunes seem to only be found in investment or
Erectile dysfunction ads.
Lead by Glenn Faria, the band run through uplifting and slightly trippy tunes, the best being
"I’m Goin Down," "Arms of God," and "Healer." The obviously inspired and often
passionate band help make the record still sound fresh. While in the 60’s it was often the
most popular bands who were also the most daring, this record shows that, like our era, bands
under the radar could also deliver the goods with the heavyweights. This is a nice surprise,
and a history lesson to boot.
