Humanwine subscribes to the style of “Dark Cabaret”. Their music sounds fun, a bouncing guitar rhythm throughout Rivolta Silenziosa and Holly Brewer’s vocals. Taking a step deeper and looking at the lyrics, the subject matter is truly dark. There is a story the band writes in their lyrics of a futuristic society similar to 1984. Big Brother, the second song on the EP features Holly chanting “Big brother is watching me” and singing “Even if the eye on pyramids / is keeping track of your every move / You can contain your thoughts, they’re all you’ve got / so go and do what you do. ? So what if Big Brother is watching…?” The concept goes further, the government planting pills (the not-me pill of lies, now with 20% more freedumb), and other conspiracies. Holly Brook’s vocals are something to look out for, as the band continues to get larger and tour with others such as the Dresden Dolls.
