As Tall As Lions is one of those bands whose albums have sat in my pile-o-discs forever but someone on the message board was recommending this band. I looked back into my pile and found their self-titled album and am quite impressed with what this Long Island, NY band is capable of. While they have some similarities to that of adult oriented UK rockers like The Doves or Keane they are truly American in delivery and nature. Their arrangements on their self-titled sophomore album are lush and big as life itself. So, while that may equate to great fanfare in the UK, what does that mean for the fickle North American crowd?
While a Copeland fan might reach to a band like As Tall As Lions, I'm not sure if that's enough to make this band a household name. Regardless, songs like "Ghost of York" and the fairly upbeat "Be Here Now" will find a place in my heart. The album opens with a moody intro into "Stab City", setting the pace for the songs to come. In fact, moody is a great way to describe As Tall As Lions; the sort of music that would be great late at night. I love "Song For Luna", it just has a great beat going for it. I did find that this album did take about 3 listens to get into, before that I could have just dismissed the album as standard AOR fare.
Thanks for making me reach through my pile. I need to do that more often, but the priority pile always seems to take precedence.

I recommend this CD to anyone who is into melodies and soft rock. If you're into more hardcore bands, you will definitely get bored with As Tall As Lions. I fell in love after listening to the song 'Love, Love, Love(Love Love)' An amazing song with beautiful lyrics. But yes, this is a great CD which may take you a couple listens to get into, but deserves a chance nonetheless.
