Completely agree with you Solitary. Iron Maiden just has that raw punky spur of the moment sound. The whole album is a must listen to. Prowler displays some of the greatness that is Iron Maiden's dual guitarists. Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton have some of the greatest recorded solos I've ever heard from a metal band. Even though MANY Maiden fans (myself included) think that Dickinson is a far superior singer, there is no denying the greatness of Maiden's debut album. Since im going off track, ill go ahead and talk about one of my favorite all time songs, "Transylvania". This is not only one of the best instrumentals, but one of their most electrifying songs. For about 2 minutes Transylvania seems like a normal 4:4 song, keeping good tempo and moderate difficulty, then right as soon as that 2 minute mark passes, everyone starts rotating these crazy a** solos that not even Guitar Hero can duplicate. You can tell that Stratton and Murray are just making this up as they go along, which just makes this song that much more unique and great to listen to. This is the debut album that marks a great moment in music history. This is when the NWOBHM took over and changed the sound of music forever, even now, almost 30 years later, traces of Maiden can be heard in bands who weren't even born when Maiden made their historic debut.

"Iron Maiden" has to be one of the most solid debut albums in metal history. While their sound has no doubt evolved over the years, it's interesting to hear some of the more punkier influences that crept into their NWOBHM sound. As any fan knows, Maiden albums previous to "The Number Of The Beast" were fronted by Paul Di'anno, who was certainly no Bruce Dickinson but oozed passion and modest aggression. No doubt he fit this quicker, more care-free Iron Maiden perfectly. The twin-guitar runs the band would become famous for are heavy in action throughout, especially on the epic-natured "Phantom Of the Opera" and instrumental closer "Transylvania", one of the best in their expansive catalog. "Iron Maiden" consists of mostly short, quick-hitting punky metal songs with many hints at the pioneering and dominant beast Maiden were to become...
