Beans is a music collective that is not new to the moody soundscapes that make up Inner Cosmosis. In fact, Beans have release three albums previous to this one and are increasing their fanbase significantly. Their sound is almost exclusively instrumental but they do add vocals on the odd track. The music is very mellow but complex. Don’t think Low, think more along the lines of Tortoise or Trans Am. Inner Cosmosis is an album to listen to on headphones because there is so many swirling sounds that many drift by unnoticed. There are lofty songs like “All Suns� that seem to drift on forever (19 minutes to be precise), but as far as I’m concerned, Inner Cosmosis may as well have been one song. It’s an album that you use for background music, not for parties. It would be appropriate for late night listening when you are pondering the workings of the Universe. Snowed in? Reach for this album to look out at the stormy madness outside. The guys in Beans have created a very interesting instrumental album that will have many people raving. I would say if you are into the post-rock sounds of Chicago that this Vancouver group would be right up your alley.
