I'll admit it, I'm a huge fan of drum beats and weird electronic sounds in music. And I'm even a bigger fan of Tim Kasher, lead singer of The Good Life and Cursive, so it would be very hard for me not to love BLACK OUT. But, in my opinion, this album fully deserves all of its praise; it is gloomy and poignant, full of songs about alcohol and sex which take its listeners to the bars where Kasher "lifts one lonely finger" for a drink. From the highly experimental "The Beaten Path" to the double entendre of "Don't Make Love So Hard," BLACK OUT proves to be a ingeniously written and beautifully cohesive album where not one song is lacking in somber beauty.
